RSS Subscribe Scheduled Maintenance: WIN.SECURESERVER.CO.NZ Migration
Posted on 13/02/12 07:02PM

Start Time: 08/03/2012 00:00 NZDT
End Time: 08/03/2012 04:00 NZDT

During this maintenance window, we will be migrating all customer websites to a replacement server on new hardware. This will improve the scalability & performance of the service we provide to our customers.

Websites on win.secureserver.co.nz will be unavailable during this maintenance window.

No data will be lost. All websites will be backed up and transferred to the replacement server. IP addresses will also be transferred to this new server so no customer website reconfiguration will be required.

Additional Information

You can determine which IIS server your website is hosted on from the control panel by checking the Secure Server option which is displayed when editing your ASP/.Net site in the websites settings.

Website content is being synchronised nightly to the replacement server already. We recommend you test your site (http only) in advance of the migration by modifying your hosts file (please see the knowledge base article below) with an entry for your website domain name using the IP address below. If you notice any issues then please contact us. This IP is to be used for testing only. Under no circumstances should you reconfigure DNS to direct your website to this address.

Please note that only content located in the website root will be synchronised. Files located directly in the ftp root and not in a website path will not be synchronised. If you have a valid reason for requiring files to be located in the ftp root then you must contact us in advance of this migration and we will ensure that the files are included in the synchronisation.

What is a hosts file? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_%28file%29

How to edit my hosts file?

To preview a website on another server you will need to add the following line to the hosts file on your computer (replace yourdomain.co.nz with your domain name): www.yourdomain.co.nz yourdomain.co.nz

This is accomplished in Windows by adding the line to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. If you are running Windows Vista or later you will
need to ensure you run notepad as administrator. In Linux and Mac OS X the file is /etc/hosts.

You can now test the website by browsing to www.yourdomain.co.nz with your browser. Please note that you might have to re-start your browser first to make it realize that the IP has changed.

Once your testing is completed, you can revert those changes back (by removing the entries of the hosts file).
